Asian Dance Research & Practice Association (ADRPA)
Connecting scholars and practitioners to advance dance research, cultural heritage, and intercultural collaboration across Asia.
ADRPA (Asian Dance Research & Practice Association) was co-founded in 2024 by a new generation of Chinese postdoctoral scholars and PhD holders with extensive international academic experience. Officially registered in Hong Kong as a non-profit academic organization, ADRPA is committed to fostering cross-cultural dialogue and interdisciplinary exchange within the field of dance studies. Bringing together expertise in dance research, cultural communication, performance practice, and emerging interdisciplinary approaches, the Association has also attracted scholars and artists from Malaysia, Indonesia, India, South Korea, Thailand, and other regions, forming a dynamic and globally connected academic network.Rooted in the core philosophy of “Research, Practice, and Communication,” ADRPA seeks to bridge the gap between academic inquiry and embodied knowledge. It advocates for a holistic understanding of dance as both an intellectual pursuit and a lived cultural experience. Through a series of academic conferences, thematic forums, dance workshops, fieldwork programs, and international collaborative projects, the Association actively constructs platforms for dialogue between scholars, practitioners, and cultural institutions. In addition, ADRPA places particular emphasis on the contemporary transformation of traditional dance, the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and the role of dance in intercultural communication. By encouraging innovative methodologies and cross-disciplinary perspectives, ADRPA is shaping a distinctive model that advances Asian dance not only as heritage, but as a living, evolving, and globally engaged cultural practice. The Association continues to expand its international partnerships and aims to contribute to a more inclusive and interconnected global discourse on dance and culture.
